Information about the President's Block.
This is Karon's last year as President of the Guild. As such, we are asking members to make a block for her so that she can make a quilt to commemorate her time in office. A description of the block she has requested can be found below. We present these blocks to her at our Holiday Luncheon in December 2020. You can mail the block in a standard legal size envelope with one star to our Facilities VP Nancy Wilhelm (her address is in the membership book).
Karon has chosen the block "Tilted 9 Patch Block" done in purples and a bright/lime green. This block was taken from a pattern by Missouri Star Quilting Company. There is a You Tube about making the blocks and a quilt. The block is made up of 2 1/2 squares and finishes as a 10 inch block (10 1/2 with seams). The center block should be white with your name embroidered on it. (Karon will embroider your name on it with her machine if you write your name on a scrap piece of material and safety pin it to the block.)
8 -- 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch squares from a variety of purple materials
1 -- 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch square from white for center square
Make a 9 patch block
4 -- 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch rectangles from purple
12 -- 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch squares of a bright green
2 -- 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch rectangles of the same green
Use the purple rectangles and 8 green squares to make flying geese. (This is where the You Tube might be helpful if you have not done flying geese before.)
See above picture to see how to sew strips together, sew to nine block and then add the top and bottom.
Any questions, check with Kathleen or Nancy at the guild meeting.
Let's make lots of them!! (Actually you only need to make one for Karon.)
