The Coachella Valley Quilt Guild presents excellent speakers, including nationally known teachers and lecturers, that provide insight to a wide variety of topics related to quilting, from traditional to modern, from piecing techniques to design embellishments. The lecture presentations are given immediately after our monthly Saturday membership meetings, and classes are usually held on the Sunday following the meeting at the same facility. Classes can fill up fast, so if you see one that interests you, contact the Programs VP, Kathleen Herring, at programs@cvquiltguild.org

January Meeting -- Saturday, January 11, 2020

LYN BROWN
“Quilts You Can Actually Make”

Lyn Brown has been teaching quilting for more than 20 years. In 2000, she joined the faculty of North Orange County Community College District. Lyn taught five quilting classes a week for the college district, reaching over 200 students. Her projects came fast and furious, including swaps, mysteries, reproduction, contemporary with a little bit of art thrown in.

In 2014, Lyn "retired" upon the birth of her first grandchild.  Now she stitches up quilts for her own enjoyment and for publication in books and magazines. And Lyn loves visiting guilds and meeting other quilters.

February Meeting -- Saturday, February 8, 2020

VIOLET CRAFT
“Trunk Show and Lecture”
Meeting begins at 10am
Presentation begins at 11am

Violet Craft  is a licensed designer with Robert Kaufman and distributes her own line of sewing patterns, but mostly she is a momma, a wife, a friend and a maker.

Violet pursued an education in business and finance. She started her career in software development which brought her to the Pacific Northwest where she bagged her man, feathered her nest and stitched it all together. Drawn to art, craft and make-ing, the birth of her first daughter compelled Violet to ditch her corporate career and seek out her passion.

Her first fabric collection debuted with Michael Miller Fabrics in Spring 2011 along with the first Violet Craft Distinctive Lifestyle Sewing Patterns. She teaches sewing and design workshops which are often influenced by her awesomely nerdy former career. violetcraft.com

"English Paper Piecing-- Choose Your Own Adventure"

Class:  1pm to 4pm

Members $25

Violet teaches most of her classes as technique workshops instead of pattern classes.

English paper piecing is a technique where fabric is wrapped around paper templates and secured with basting stitches or glue. The pieces are then sewn together by hand. We will begin our time discussing general information about English paper piecing, best practices and tools. Then we will begin our project together and work step by step through english paper piecing. EPP is a slow process. Be prepared for a leisure class time of project preparation and slow sewing.
