The Mizell Center’s 3rd Wednesday Speaker Series recently hosted a moving tribute to the AIDS Memorial Quilt. Envisioned by activist Cleve Jones in 1985, this monumental project was established to honor and preserve the memories of those lost to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. During the event, expert panelists discussed the pandemic’s history while tracing the remarkable growth of the Quilt. Today, it stands as both a solemn monument to the departed and a powerful emblem of LGBTQIA+ civil rights and social advocacy. We at the Coachella Valley Quilt Guild were honored to serve as a Community Partner. Many of our dedicated members contributed handmade sections to assemble a special 12' x 12' display.
