There will be a Quilt of Valor table set up outside of the meeting room for our September and October meetings. You can pick up the official QOV labels for your quilts, check on quilt sizes, pick up extra free patriotic fabric, let us know you are making a quilt or find out how to nominate a veteran for a quilt. Leslie Gardner will be there to answer your questions.
Zoom Summer Sew Alongs
To work on Quilts of Valor/AIDS Quilt Collaboration
(or other projects)
Mark these Sundays on your calendar and join other guild members in a Zoom Sew Along:
Sunday, September 10
The Zoom Sit and Sew will be from 10 to noonish. There will be opportunities to break up into groups -- Quilts of Valor, AIDS quilts, own sewing projects -- if the group wants to.
The link will be the same as for the general meetings that is sent out just prior to the meeting.
The Guild is collaborating with the Mizell Center in Palm Springs for their
upcoming AIDS Quilt exhibit this coming November. They will have several panels from the original quilt on display. They are asking our members to make 3' x 3' panels for a 12' x
12' quilt top they will be assembling for their exhibit. The theme for the panels should focus on "Survival" and what that means to you. We are asking that groups of two or more work on one
panel. A total of 16 panels will be made. More information is available in the pdf file below. See
above for the Zoom meeting schedule, which is running concurrent with the Quilts of Valor project.
If you'd like to make a panel, the possibilities are endless. Your panel can be pieced,
appliquéd, painted, embellished...wherever your creativity takes you. If you'd like to participate, please contact Treese Pflum or Jackie Mason.
In addition, Mizell is asking if we could mentor individuals on basic sewing at a
special workshop they're planning. The date to be announced later. If you'd like to be a mentor and attend, please contact Treese for more details.
Sun City Quilters present Quilts of Valor to two of the veterans who live in the Sun City community. These quilts were presented on Veteran's Day 2017. These photos are of Sy Kaplan receiving his quilt that was made by Phyllis Peterson.
