PROGRAMS 2024

The Coachella Valley Quilt Guild presents excellent speakers, including nationally known teachers and lecturers, that provide insight to a wide variety of topics related to quilting, from traditional to modern, from piecing techniques to design embellishments. The lecture presentations are given immediately after our monthly Saturday membership meetings, and classes are usually held on the Sunday following the meeting at the same facility or on Zoom.  Classes can fill up fast, so if you see one that interests you click the PayPal button to sign up or contact the Programs VP, Cheryl Quesnell, Annie Houston or Nancy Wilhelm at programscvqg@gmail.com

Meetings of the Coachella Valley Quilt Guild will be hybrid meetings -- in person at University of Riverside, Palm Desert Campus and on Zoom -- January through May and September through November.  June, July and August will be Zoom only.  December is our Holiday Luncheon.

Classes will either be in person or Zoom but not hybrid.  Check below for more information.

Fearless Patchwork:  Exes and Ohs

9:00am  - 3:30pm

In Person Class

Everyone can become a Fearless Quiltmaker. Don't let curves or Y-seams slow you down.  Two blocks from the 1876 Centennial Quilt will be the focus in this skills-builder workshop.  You will learn a variety of cutting (ruler, template, FRZ template, fussy) and machine piecing techniques (Y-seams, curves, set in circles). Make just a couple of sample blocks or keep going to create the Exes and Ohs quilt with its illusion of multiple layers.  Everyone learns something valuable, confident beginner and expert alike, as they explore new techniques, color placement and hone their quilt-making skills.  The required class kit ($25) includes all instructions and templates to make the blocks presented and the Exes and Ohs pattern.

Required class kit pictured above.  Cost is $25 and can be paid via PayPal or credit card below or can pay at the class.

Pagtinabangay:

The Quilts and Quiltmakers

of Caohagan Island

Hybrid Meeting -- Speaker on Zoom

Meeting starts at 10:00am

Program starts at 11:00am

You’ll be transported to a tiny island — just 13 acres — in the central Philippines as you enjoy images and stories of the colorful quilts and the more than 100 quiltmakers of Caohagan Island. You’ll see photos of more than 50 of these handmade, one-of-a-kind quilts plus be introduced to the unique techniques developed by these quiltmakers whose tools are simply fabric and scissors, needle and thread. I spent more than a month on the island, quilted with the residents, went fabric shopping with them on nearby Cebu Island, and snorkeled the reef that surrounds Caohagan. Those who view the quilts come away smiling, inspired by the creativity of these women and men.
