You might remember seeing Mary Gorfine's quilt "Collard Peccary" at the Desert Guilds Quilt Show. She recently submitted it to "Threads of Inspiration" a show in a small gallery in San Diego. Out of 93 entries, 16 quilts were chosen to be inspiration for students attending classes at Inspirations Gallery at Liberty Station (2730 Historic Decator Road #204, San Diego). The quilts were created by members of Studio Art Quilt Association.
This is what Mary wrote about her quilt:
Visiting a secluded rainforest lodge in Costa Rica had a profound impact on me--the harmony of life in the forest is truly wondrous. Because the COVID-19 pandemic had only recently eased travel restrictions in some parts of the world, the lodge was mostly devoid of visitors. For at least 2 days, my sister and I were the only guests. Some animals felt comfortable leaving their leafy shelter to visit the deserted grounds.
A squadron (group) of collared peccaries came every day to forage. Of course, they were clearly visible, even from a distance. I wondered, what colors could they be if they didn’t need to hide?

Guild member Roberta Peterson won best of show at the Riverside County Date Festival in February of this year. Congratulations, Roberta!
Each year the guild encourages members to enter quilts, quilted items or other handcrafts in our local county fair. The display of handicrafts is wonderful to see. We also display our yearly Opportunity Quilt and talk to members of the public about quilting as we sell tickets to win the quilt. A number of our past winners have purchased their tickets at the Date Festival.
