Simply Woven Quilt Along

March 24-May 5, 2021

We are excited to launch CVQG’s very first Quilt Along (QAL)!  Join us making this beautiful quilt that plays with strips of fabric to make them look like they are woven together.  This is the perfect stash buster, or gives you a good reason to buy that beautiful jelly roll or fabric bundle you have had your eye on.  The QAL will be over six weeks and each week we will be giving instructions on the next step.  By the end of week six you will have a complete quilt top.  We can’t wait to see how different everyone’s quilt turns out.  And a few lucky members will win prizes!

Questions?  Please reach out to Quilt Along co-hosts, Kelley Bachli, kbachli@gmail.com and Patti Reyes, patti.reyes@dc.rr.com

Schedule:

Week 1: Beginning Wednesday, March 24th, 7pm

We will be launching the start of the QAL with a Zoom meeting on March 24th at 7pm.  We will be discussing some fabric selection ideas, and it will be an opportunity to see everyone who is participating.  We know that some of you have already begun selecting your fabrics--if so, please send a photo to kbachli@gmail.com so that we can share with the group during the Zoom meeting.  We hope everyone can join us for the Zoom, but if you cannot, please know you are still welcome to join the QAL.

Assignment for week 1: Select your fabric. Share photos of fabric selection to Instagram and/or send to Kelley Bachli at kbachli@gmail.com or Robert Tucker at lickaretta@yahoo.com to share.  Tag your posts with #cvqal, #cvqg, and #simplywovenquilt

Photos of fabric selection will be added as we receive them, so be sure to send yours in to share!  And if you missed our Zoom meeting, download the presentation here.

 Week 2: Wednesday, March 31

Assignment for week 2: It is time to start cutting your fabric!  In addition, we highly recommend sewing a test block to see how your block comes together.

A few tips for sewing your first block:

  • Sew a scant 1/4 seam.  This should help the finished block measure 12 1/2" (my first block was just under 12 1/2" and the scant seam has helped)
  • Press your seams open.  This will help your block lay flat
  • Do your best to line up your "woven" strips

We can't wait to see how it is starting to come together.  One lucky person who shares their photos will win a $10 gift card to Monica's Quilt and Bead, so don't forget to share your photo!   Share photos of cut fabric and test blocks to Instagram and/or send to Kelley Bachli at kbachli@gmail.com or Robert Tucker at lickaretta@yahoo.com to share.  Tag your posts with #cvqal, #cvqg, and #simplywovenquilt.

Week 3: Wednesday, April 7

Assignment for week 3: Complete 1/3 of your blocks (16 blocks for a twin size quilt).  Share photos of blocks to Instagram and/or send to Kelley Bachli at kbachli@gmail.com or Robert Tucker at lickaretta@yahoo.com to share.  Tag your posts with #cvqal, #cvqg, and #simplywovenquilt

Sunday, April 11 Zoom "QAL Sit and Sew" from 9-11

Join us to share your progress, ask questions, or simply chitchat with members participating in the QAL.

Week 4: Wednesday, April 14

Last week we really got going on our blocks.  We continue this week, sewing another 1/3 of our blocks.  Keep the eye on the prize--your quilt top will be finished in just a couple of weeks!  (And if you are feeling behind, don't worry--send in your photos anytime!)

Don't forget to share a photo of your blocks to Instagram and/or send to Kelley Bachli at kbachli@gmail.com or Robert Tucker at lickaretta@yahoo.com to share.  Tag your posts with #cvqal, #cvqg, and #simplywovenquilt. Photos will be added to the website as we receive them.

Week 5: Wednesday, April 21

If you have been keeping up, you know we have been sewing, sewing, and sewing more blocks!  You should have two thirds of them complete and this week we are tackling the last set of blocks.  This is the final push to get ALL the blocks done.  But if you have fallen behind, don't despair!  Send in your photos of your progress anytime.

Share a photo of all your blocks to Instagram and/or send to Kelley Bachli at kbachli@gmail.com or Robert Tucker at lickaretta@yahoo.com to share.  Tag your posts with #cvqal, #cvqg, and #simplywovenquilt. Photos will be added to the website as we receive them.  You can see what has been submitted here.

Sunday, April 25 Zoom "QAL Sit and Sew" from 9-11

Our second Sit and Sew is coming up on this Sunday.  No need to change out of your pajamas, just grab your coffee and join us!  This is a chance to see each other's progress and share strategies and tips.  It doesn't matter if you are behind on your blocks or have already finished your top, feel free to sit in (no sewing required!).  Zoom link will be sent out on Saturday.

Week 6: Wednesday, April 28

Assemble top.  Share photos of completed top to Instagram and/or send to Kelley Bachli at kbachli@gmail.com or Robert Tucker at lickaretta@yahoo.com to share.  Tag your posts with #cvqal, #cvqg, and #simplywovenquilt

By end of week 6 (May 5), quilt top is complete!
